Target Audience- Law enforcement, first responders, child services, death scene investigators, prosecutors, coroners, and pathologists.
Parking- This event will be held at the Indiana University Northwest Anderson Library, 3400 Broadway, Gary, IN 46408. We will be located in the Library Conference Center room 105. Attendees can park in student spaces but not in EM spaces. Please refer to the parking link below.

Arrival-Please arrive approximately 30 minutes early to sign in.
It is highly recommended that you complete the entire training. You will not receive coroner or law enforcement CEU credits if you are unable to complete the full day training. You must fill out the evaluation at the end of the training to recieve credit.
Course Objectives
1. Apply nationally recognized standards in order to conduct a thorough infant death investigation.
2. Analyze scene and interview information to determine proper investigative steps and identify the correct circumstances for utilizing a doll/scene reenactment according to the National Association of Medical Examiner’s and Center for Disease Control best practices.
3. Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to rigorously investigate an infant death.
4.Utilize trauma-practicing principles for communication and investigative processes at a child death scene to ensure that all stakeholders are treated with empathy and respect.
Course Instructors
Course Instructors:
Tyler Counsil, Ed. D. – With over a decade working in forensic science and investigative roles, Tyler has held key roles as a Forensic Scientist with the Indiana State Police Laboratory Division and currently serves as the Chief Deputy Coroner for Daviess County, Indiana. Additionally, he is the Director of Child Advocacy Studies (CAST) for Zero Abuse Project, using his academic expertise to advance child advocacy initiatives and assist faculty in implementing child abuse prevention programs.
Jo Catania, MPA, D-ABMDI – Drawing from 23 years of investigative experience as the Chief Medical Examiner Investigator for 13 counties in Michigan and as a Police Officer, she brings her education and strong passion to provide innovative standardized training. Jo enjoys collaborating with various organizations to develop meaningful curriculum for field investigators, police officers and child protection services professionals.
Roland Kohr, M.D. – A Board Certified Forensic Pathologist, who provided forensic autopsy services for over 20 counties in western Indiana and eastern Illinois during his nearly 40-year career. He has performed over 7500 autopsies. He was also the elected Coroner of Vigo County, serving a total of 4 terms.
